If you need help right now: the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline answers day or night, free and confidential. In the United States, call or text 988, or chat online at 988lifeline.org. In an emergency, 911. Outside the United States, the room asks where you are and gives your country’s line; the lines we have verified are listed on the Sign Up page.

WRITING YOUR STORY

Some stories should never be lost.

For Families

Give someone you love the chance to tell their story.

Everyone who has lived a long life deserves the chance to leave their story in their own words.

For a family member, or a facility — a senior-living community, a care home, a library or a place of worship — who would like to give a person a seat.

Writing Your Story is a companion that helps a person tell the story of their life in their own words, and keeps it. You can open the door for them. The story stays theirs.

What the person gets.

Writing Your Story does not create your story. It preserves your story.

The teller supplies the memories, experiences, opinions, humor, pain, pride, family history, working life, and meaning.

Writing Your Story listens, asks, organizes, formats, and helps turn those words into a manuscript.

If the teller speaks it, Writing Your Story may help shape it.

If the teller does not provide it, Writing Your Story does not invent it.

The teller decides what belongs in the book, how it should sound, what should remain private, and what they want to leave behind.

The teller owns the story. Writing Your Story simply helps hold the pen.

  • A companion, Rye, that listens, asks gently when it helps, remembers where they left off, and reads every line back until it says what they meant.
  • Unlimited writing. One license is one person: as many stories, visits and words as they want.
  • Their book, taken home as a Word file, in their own words, with a record of where each part came from.
  • Visits without writing. Music, the Quiet Hour, or just talk. They are never pushed to write.

How it works.

Built, testing · The microphone (talk to Rye)

Coming · The Photograph Door

Coming · Other languages

The room opens at its own door, on any phone, tablet or computer the person already has. They tell it — typing, or with their own device’s dictation — and the room reads it back. No blank page. In a browser that can listen, they can also press the microphone and speak; what it heard is read back before anything is sent, and it turns itself off. It is new, and not yet tested on every device. Every passage is read back and stays unfinished until they say it is right, and a visit with no writing still counts.

Music is one tap away, on their own device. Today the room works in English; a call for help is heard in the teller’s own language and answered with the crisis line first, and other languages are coming. The finished book is theirs to shape — titled, in their own words — or kept plain. Coming in Phase 2: the photograph door, where photographs go in beside the words, captioned in their own dictation. It is not part of the room today, and it has not yet been tested.

How a given seat works.

There are two ways into Writing Your Story, and the person you give a seat to takes the second one:

I was given a code

A family member, a friend or a facility gave you a seat. Say your code or type it at the door.

Either way, it is the same room and the same seal.

A seat is one license for one person: $19.95 a month. One person per license. Unlimited writing. Cancel any time.

Giving a seat opens with sign-up. Sign-up opens soon. Until then, write to info@lovingmywords.com, tell us who the seat is for, and a person will answer.

Their story stays theirs.

Giving a seat does not open the story. To the person whose story it is, we say it this way:

Your story is sealed, designed so that no staff member, facility or family member can open it without one of your codes.

That includes the family member or the facility who gave the seat. The teller can choose to name a helper — someone to help them back in, or someone who may open the story to hear it — and can take that back at any visit. The outside security review of the seal is still to come, so we say how it is built, not that it cannot fail.

Ask, never assume. The room never says “Sir” or “Ma’am” unasked and assumes no title or gender. It asks how the teller wishes to be addressed, and the teller’s own answer outranks a helper’s.

Care comes first.

Care comes first, above every other rule, whether or not a seat is paid. Each line below comes from that service’s own official page, checked 2026-10-13; Sign Up carries them in full.

  • United States — 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org · emergency 911
  • United Kingdom — Samaritans: 116 123 · emergency 999
  • Canada — 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline: call or text 9-8-8 · emergency 911
  • Australia — Lifeline: 13 11 14 · emergency 000
  • New Zealand — 1737, Need to Talk: call or text 1737 · emergency 111
  • Anywhere else — the room asks where the teller is and gives that country’s line; where none is verified, the emergency number, said plainly. It never invents a number.

We can listen. We cannot practice.

The boundary. A companion and a storytelling system, not a doctor, therapist, lawyer or adviser. It does not diagnose or advise; it names the qualified person and stays. The boundary never delays a crisis line.

The standard it is built to.

Coming · The Photograph Door

How we build. Not a claim about outcomes.

  • Every promise has a file behind it, and, where it can be code, a gate.
  • The central promise runs as code, not prose: a line the teller never said is refused by name, the read-back is kept as evidence, and the finished book carries a table showing where each sentence came from.
  • A judge who built nothing grades the room against a written plan before release. No green is typed: each is a bare check.
  • Real scenarios, graded cold — spoken-only, screen-reader, a visit with no writing, a helper and teller with no shared language, a distress line in the first message by country and in another language, the invention test. (The photograph door is Phase 2: coming, and not yet tested.)

Where it stands. This site and its checks pass on the desk. Writing Your Story has not yet been opened to the public: before the door opens, the room runs its live simulations on its own server and a judge who built nothing re-judges it; if any cannot pass, the door stays closed. No testimonials: there are no customers yet.

The founder.

Lei A. Benoit is an author and the founder of Loving My Words. A first manuscript, written fast, was called terrible; this house was built so a first attempt is never where a storyteller stops. Every one of the founder’s own manuscripts goes through these rooms.

You lived it. You tell it. We help you preserve it.

Contact.

Write to info@lovingmywords.com — a person reads every letter. Tell us who the seat is for, or the people your community serves.

Not sure what to do here? Questions about this page.

Here are the short answers. Inside the room — at the door on this site — you can ask your companion any of these too: type it, or let your device’s own dictation type it for you, and the answer is read aloud to you.

What is this page for?

For a family member or a facility who would like to give someone a seat: what the person gets, how a given seat works, and why the story stays theirs.

Can I read the story if I gave the seat?

Not unless the teller chooses. The story is sealed under the teller’s own codes; giving a seat does not open it.

How do I give a seat?

Giving a seat opens with sign-up, which opens soon. The person you give it to chooses “I was given a code” at the door. Until then, write to info@lovingmywords.com.

Who do we write to?

info@lovingmywords.com. A person reads every letter and answers it.
